The 3 Most Important Cars of the 2014

In India, the car market has been growing at a fast pace. There have been a number of new launches and facelifts every year. The year 2014 is no different. Let us look at three important cars launched in 2014.

The Tata Zest was first unveiled at the New Delhi Auto Expo held in 2014 and was launched in August. The Zest is built on the Tata’s X1 platform and gets a new signature grille, projector headlamps and bumper. The cabin is dominated by a new black and beige dashboard with silver accents and black inserts. The Zest gets a new instrument cluster with a MID, other than the other features that include climate control, LED day-time running lights and guide lights. The Zest comes with a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol Revotron engine that churns out 89 bhp @ 5000 rpm and a peak torque of 140 Nm @ 1750-3500 rpm. The diesel engine is a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, Quadrajet diesel unit with that generates 89 bhp @ 4000 rpm and peak torque of 200 Nm @ 1750-3500 rpm. The car starts at a price tag of Rs. 4.64 lakh.



Maruti’s new car, the Ciaz, was revealed as a concept at the New Delhi Auto Expo 2014. Built on an all-new Ertiga platform, the Ciaz comes with a very appealing exterior and interior. Launched in October 2014, the Ciaz has received a tremendous response in the Indian market. The front fascia has a large hood and a 4-slat chrome grille. The large projector head-lamps add to the character. The Ciaz comes with beige-black interiors. There are wooden and chrome inserts on the dash. Powering the Ciaz petrol is a 1.4-litre K Series engine that produces a peak power of 91 bhp with 130 Nm of torque. The diesel variant derives power from the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre MultiJet engine that makes a maximum power of 89 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard though a 4-speed automatic transmission is also on offer on the car's petrol variant. The Ciaz is priced from Rs. 7.2 to 10.5 lakh.



Maruti had launched the Maruti Celerio in 2014. The Celerio has been developed on a completely new platform. The Celerio comes with an automatic gearbox. Higher variants get electric ORVMs with turn indicators, R13 alloy wheels (R14 for the Celerio ZXi) and fog lamps. The Celerio is powered by a 998 cc, 67 bhp engine that gives mileage of 28.1 kmpl with petrol and 36 km/kg with CNG. The 1086 cc, 68 bhp engine of the i10 gives mileage of 19.81 kmpl with petrol and 19.2 km/kg with LPG. The Ciaz is priced from Rs. 7.2 to 10.5 lakh.
